Whoa COOL! Gone for a week and now the layout of "BloggerBasic" has all changed...it looks prettier now, quite MSN-ish, but that's alright. When I'm done I shall go play around with the nice array of spanking new tabs and buttons. Whee! :D

Well but I guess the main thing I wanted to say is...
Happy Birthday, me!

*grin* Ok...well might as well put up production photos too...there are 18 of them and they're rather big, so I don't think I shall post them all. But here's a sample...the address is http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/imaginarium/images/rumours01.jpg. Just substitute "rumours01" with "rumours02" up to "rumours18", you should be able to view them all. Have fun, monkey-doos!

Anyhoo, that's meeee!

And what am I up to on my birthday? Econs and math...charming. *makes face* Bleh!

The weather's bitchy these past few days. I feel like a leaking sponge. Hurrah, so much for one-line blogging. *zips*

Stuck in the Middle with You. And that, ladies and gentlemonkeys, concludes this year's HCJC ELDDFS production of Rumours '03. The curtains closed upon raving fans and raving reviews, and a very sad, very jubilant cast...well at least one very sad, very jubliant cast member. It went better than I ever dreamed, and I loved every moment of it...but at the same time, there settled upon me the reality that this was it. No more crazy rehearsals, no more late nights at the theatre, no more lovely set, no more acting. The reality of life having to return to some semblance of normal, of having to start studying again, preparing for As...the feeling's been gradually sinking in. I was numb at first, thinking, ok, I can get through this, but as we slowly retraced the steps we took one year back...going to Swenson's in Holland Village, staying till late, stoning as we tried to settle the bill, the nostalgia and the missingness started to overcome me, and since then it's been steadily building. All the more so when we pulled down the set today. It was quicker, more brutal than last year. Just 2 short hours and 4 days of loving effort were just torn away, sent back to the different places from whence they came. No ceremony, no decorum, just boom, strip off that masking tape, un-drill those screws, take away the flats, dump the rubbish, take back the props. And then that's it. An empty theatre sends you off, heightened by the acute awareness that you felt exactly the same way last year, as you stood right there, and took in the same scene. Only last year you knew that by the next, you'd be back. And you were. But now, no more. I'll be watching from the audience again next year, as I did back in Sec3, watching Black Comedy, Dark Minds by the HCJC ELDDFS of the time. That was what convinced me that Hwa Chong was the place I was gonna go. I was gonna be on that stage someday, and I was going to be in the HCJC ELDDFS production. But how could I have seen? Not one wonderful experience, but two. I count myself so blessed to have been a part of the productions I loved, and being part of a legacy over 20 years old. This will stay with me for all time.

Ah, but it never does any good to be depressed like this, does it? It was a wonderful two nights, yet full of their own anxiety. Thank God, we pulled through together. And we were thinking dropped lines were bad? On the second day of performance a very real emergency arose with the actor playing my husband fell sick with something like food poisoning. Already the night before he wasn't feeling too good, but still went onstage and acted really well anyway; the next morning however he actually went to the hospital to see a doctor about it, so we figured it had to be something more serious than it sounded. Naturally that threw all of us into panic; we didn't cast any understudies...could the show go on tonight? We couldn't disappoint a crowd of 400, and we couldn't bring ourselves to cancel a show. So in the end we decided that Mr Perry, our director extraordinaire had to do it. So we rushed to theatre, and spent about half the afternoon rehearsing with Mr Perry, trying to help him learn his lines. It was around 4pm when we decided that please, please, let our fellow cast member be well enough to come...not even Mr Perry could perform his role like he did. It was incongruous, among other things, to have a blonde 40-something year old man acting alongside a bunch of Asiatic 17 and 18 year olds (arguably, and quite correctly, Mr Perry pointed out that he was the right type to do this play, and we were the odd ones), and I wasn't exactly comfortable with the prospect of having to be married to my lit teacher (Mr Perry, the ultimate multitasker! Director and lit teacher too!) and doing dirty dancing with him. Um. And anyway aside from that it was really too much to ask for, to have him learn an hour plus worth of stage lines in the space of an afternoon! Thank God indeed, after a frantic afternoon of worry and concern, our friend was well enough to come down at 6pm, and despite extreme discomfort, pulled himself together to put up a brilliant show on the second night. I truly admire him for making the sacrifice to come down and pull off a terrific performance...Zhuang Hui, though you'll never get to read this, you rock! :D

I think I definitely appreciate much more the holistic picture of what went into making our production such a success. Now, unlike last year, I see the stage crew, I see the sound, lighting, costume, publicity and logistics people, I see the producers, and just how hard they've all been working too. I was sincerely moved by the colossal enthusiasm and dedication and labour that were poured into this, and just how amazing it was that it should all come together in such a spectacular way. We wowed the crowd, had a great time, and I can tell you, it's at times like this when you feel just like you're on top of the whole wide world.

What else can I say?

To the cast: my dear friends, thank you all for such wonderful memories. It's had it's ups and downs indeed, but at the end of the day, I had fun, and I hope you guys did too. We are farmily! ;P*grinz*

To my dear ladies of the exco: Jan and Karin, stage manageresses, Jiamin in logistics, Jesley in costuming, Tiffy in publicity, and how can I leave out Mabel and Angela, our remarkable producers? For keeping cool heads under the toughest pressure, always ready still with a smile and a hammer or a nail or some other useful piece of equipment, you go girls! And I don't care, the elephant's name is Muthu. ;P

And of course, our audience, and those of you whom I know who came...Jiamin, Regina, Soo, Scuzzy, Tris. And there are many more, who I can't name by name, but who were equally important. Your presence there, your words of encouragement, support, flowers, I shall always cherish. This show was for you! :)

Photos to come, stay tuned! :)

And that's the production log for 2003. I only wish I could do it all over again...well I leave for now with our opening music. Great song, great memories.

Stuck in the Middle With You
::Stealers Wheel::

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
And I'm wondering what it is I should do,
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
Please.... Please.....

Trying to make some sense of it all,
But I can see that it makes no sense at all,
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor,
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
Please.... Please.....

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you,
Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
Stuck in the middle with you.

Head in the clouds
Vivienne Wong was hatched on the 12th of June 1985 and hails from Singapore, which contrary to popular belief, is not a colony of Japan. Formerly of Raffles Girls' Primary and Secondary School and then of Hwa Chong Junior College's Humanities Scheme, she is currently readjusting herself to the finer points of academia (read: she hasn't studied in ages and is really overworked) in her 2nd year at Nanyang Technological University Communication Studies. However she is currently spending the semester on the snowy plains of Ithaca College, New York, and lovin' it. Otherwise, she likes talking about herself in the third person, drawing, acting, comics, watching cartoons, eating Italian food, light rock, Irish music, Broadway tunes, acoustic guitar riffs, drawing some more and singing loudly in the bathroom. On the other hand, she dislikes unmotivated people, afternoon naps, the conventional, and people who are either smelly or wearing clothes too tight for them so that they end up bulging. Contactable here.
